Moving outlook files from external hard drive to computer

My old computer crashed. I was running Windows Vista and my new computer is running Windows 7. I put my old hard drive in an external case. How do I transfer my email and Outlook files to the new computer? I am having trouble even identifying where the files are on the external drive. I'm not highly knowedgeable on computers; I just know enough to get me in trouble.

Have a look here: Migrate from Outlook Express or Windows (Live) Mail to Outlook - HowTo-Outlook | HowTo-Outlook

To find where your files are on your external drive you can use Windows Explorer - of course you need to make sure the external drive is connected to your computer.

I can open up a number of different files, but can't find my Outlook files. When I try to open Windows Explorer, it says it can't open properly.

Can you post a screenshot of exactly what is happening?

You may have one or more system file errors and I would suggest you run a check, as explained in this tutorial.

Would the system error be on my new computer which is running Windows 7 or on my old hard drive that I am accessing? The old hard drive was running Windows Vista and I was trying to run Windows Explorer from the external hard drive.

To access the old hard drive you need to open Windows Explorer using Windows 7.

I don't quite know what you mean by running it from the external hard drive because to access this drive you need to launch Windows 7, and then open Windows Explorer from there.

Run the system file checker on your Windows 7 installation.

The error code I received was when I tried to open explorer on the external hard drive which was taken from my old computer; the one that holds the data and files that I wanted to transfer.

When I open explorer on my new computer, I can see microsoft office and the only thing I see is Office 12. When I open this, the only thing I see is:

I'm rather confused as to exactly what you're trying to do.

Please post a screenshot of your fully expanded disk management layout (including the old hard drive) so we've got a better idea of what is going on.

As a matter of interest, how are you connecting your old hard drive?

Also, did you run the system file check?
