Max number of similtaneous IE9 windows?

Hi guys,

Been searching the net for ages to sort out this bug in IE, but alas.

Basically, if you try to open like a hundred IE windows, I start getting weird issues.

I can open hundreds and hundreds of FF windows, but for some reason, IE doesn't hack it.

I read that it's something to do with desktop heap, so I upped it's value via the registry (SharedSection), but to no avail. Messes up at something like 70 windows, every time.

Has anyone managed to successfully open 100 IE windows here in Windows 7 Pro x64?

(And yes, I do need to multi-task with lots of open windows.)

Welcome to Seven Forums iegeezer. I think the number is theoretical, but not a set number. I think it will depend on OS type, browser type, and system specs.

I assume you're experience is with 32 bit IE? Have you tried the same experiment with the 64 bit IE? I'd think the size of your cache and the temp folder might also affect this. You might also try with addons disabled. To be honest, 70 open windows (tabs?) is extreme, but I do not know if it is beyond IE9's capability as a program. Looking forward to others replies. A Guy

Just to update, I have found out that it's a Windows limitation. Editing the registry only helps to a small extent. Windows is just not able to open many IE instances unfortunately. Doesn't matter what version of IE, whether it's 32/64 bit, or whatever version of Windows. Shame.

I'd think you could open more instances of IE, and open more windows in each? A Guy
