How can I make History to save internet visits?

History only saves visits to files etc. on the computer, not anything visited on the web. I've tried to find the answer in older posts but all I found was this.....:

    Hope this helps someone else.

.....and I don't know if that is still a valid solution, this was an almost 3 year old post.

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.

Yes it is still valid, however, it is a special hidden file.

To delete it, open a Command prompt with administrative privileges.
Right click on the Command Prompt icon and select Run as administrator.
Then type or copy and paste the following:

    cd c:\Users\{user}\Appdata\local\Microsoft\Windows\History\Low\History.ie5

    {user} = Your user name.

This will bring you to the directory
    to see the file

    type dir /as
The size of index.dat will be around 16MB and that is the limit and why the history is stopped

    Type
    del index.dat /as

    To delete the file

Your history will then be retained and continue to be saved.
Unfortunately this must be done periodically.

In IE use Tools/Internet Options/Browsing History...Make sure "Delete...on exit" is UNchecked and look at the "settings" to make sure the options are set to remember history for the period of time you want.

Re: Index.dat: I don't know if it will fix anything but I don't think it would hurt to try.

Pb, thank you, it was a little scary to work with the cp because I have no idea what I can mess up there, but it worked and history is being saved as we speak.

Ron, thank you, yes, I had already checked those places out many times, and those were all the way they were supposed to be. I had never changed anything there to begin with anyway.

But I found the above mentioned file the way it was described and 'history' is back, thank you very much!!!
