WLM All buttons grayed out

Going back over this thread I see that the SFC scans couldn't fix some files also.

Did you ever run the Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer scan?

I know you said someone else removed the virus you had, but there are some problems here that all may be related to that.

That link you posted is for people who are trying not to update to Windows live essentials 2011, didn't you just install this recently?

The guy who removed that virus ran malwarebytes first, but my computer was so compromised at that point that he couldn't access it anywhere -- even in all those secret places that the tech gurus know about. By the time he finished with my computer, however, it was free of all the bad guys. I think I'm OK in that category at least.

I figured the update in that link came with the 2011 version of WLM that I recently downloaded, but I was just checking with you to make sure that it wasn't something extra I needed to do. Hope springs eternal.

I guess it's time to uninstall/reinstall, huh? Oh, man. That means I'm going to get all of those stupid RSS feeds again (which the computer guy made go away since I couldn't). If only I could figure out the mystery of the sign-in page!

OK, I think the uninstall and reinstall would be the next step.

I'm not sure why you have RSS feeds unless you have subscribed to them, if there are some you want to get rid of this will show you how.

Well, it's been interesting. My computer guy did all sorts of magical things to my computer, so I am having to learn stuff all over again. I just got it back yesterday!

WLM was reinstalled, and now has more problems, but the sign-in is mercifully not one of them. Do you think I should post a new thread with the new problems or just keep rambling around in this one?

So what all did your computer guy do? What are your problems with WLM now?

For starters, I "lost" that ribbon thing (the tool bar with the icons on it) in WLM. All I have is two skinny lines of commands in text above my email. I've read several blogs/posts online related to this issue, but no answer fits that particular problem -- at least so that I can understand it!

Then I'm back to the issue which had me download WLM in the first place: Even though the latest Windows Power Point viewer is set up as my default, I am unable to open any pps files directly from my email. I have to save them to a folder, leave my email page, go to the folder, view the pps, then go back to my email to write a reply to the sender. Way too much work. (I originally had Outlook Express. When I got WLM, the problem took care of itself. Since my tech guy did voo-doo on my computer, I am back to the no-pps problem.)

There is one other WLM problem, but I can't think of it right now. This should be enough!

This tutorial (with pictures) will show you how to get your ribbon back, basically you just right click on the menu bar and select show quick access toolbar.

I'm not sure why you can't open power points, I just sent one to my self to test it and right click on it and choose open.

They aren't zipped up are they? Is this what you are trying to open them with?

You can double check the pps file extension is associated with your program,
