Windows 7: Question about e-mail backup programs

Question about e-mail backup programs

I'm sorry I haven't introduced myself earlier, but I need assistance as soon as possible! I had to restore my computer to factory two days ago and before doing so, backed up my e-mails for my accounts on Windows Live (I have Windows 7 64 bit btw).

Anyway, I'm very bad about deleting junk and had more than 7900 deleted files in my main account - I guess that's what you call the account that holds everything else. Anyway, it holds all of my e-mails from business partners, family, etc. and I need those pronto! The problem is though is that I know for a fact that once I go to restore them to Windows Live, it will put EVERYTHING back into place and I do not want that! I would be back to square one again.

I had at one time a program on my computer that could read backed up files and even restore them back to the e-mail program on your computer, but only the ones you wanted. For the life of me, I cannot remember the name of it!

I'm hoping someone can help me find a program that can do just that so that I do not have to go through restoring all that junk to my hard drive!

I would really appreciate anyone's help.

Thanks so much!

Email backup programs are a waste of money. The tools in WLM can do this quite well. if you don't want the 7900 deleted items restored along with the rest of your email, you can choose specific folders to import when using WLM's import feature, or you could go to tools, advanced, options, maintenance, "Empty messages from the deleted items folder on exit" so you're not even saving the deleted items.

I agree that backing up email separately from the rest of the important "user created" computer files is unnecessary. However email clients tend to require some careful thought about how you intend to backup and restore them. (For example via saving the Windows Explorer app data, or using import/export, or some other general purpose Windows backup solution.) But as far as the cost goes, it looks like the 2 programs suggested above are freeware.
