Windows 7 live mail back up

I have windows 7 with windows live mail. It is working ok with btinternet pop3 mail account however I want to back up the mail.
If I use the Export mail I get a very small and quick backup that no way contains the many gigs of email. Under the maintainance tab the store folder shown is virtually empty. Any ideas as to where the mail actually resides?
It was originally imported from outlook express, but the folder structure in windows mail is fine and all the mail is there.

    Thanks

    Hi Roderunner
Thats fine, except or the fact that It dosnt export the emails, it goes through the process, which takes about 2 seconds. No way is that backing up over 5gigs of emails. The backup folder only has a file size of about 10k that's some compression!!

    Your mail resides here.
Local Disk (C)>Users>Your user name>AppData>Local>Microsoft>Windows Live Mail.
You will need to enable show hidden folders to see it.

As I said in the original Post, The folder exists but has only about 10k of data in it. Not enough by any means to relate to 5gig plus of emails. I installed windows live mail on another machine and yes they works fine, the only difference the original installation has a folder Imported from outlook. Which is the folder being used now. It appears in the Folder Tree of windows mail fine, but dosn't appear an the mail store at the location you mention. Or Exported when taking the Export Mail option.

email help after hard drive crash

Hi, I am new to this board and need some help.
My hard drive crashed and I am trying to figure out how to get my windows live mail off that drive. I had not saved the email messages to a folder on my desktop like is recommended in this thread...didn't know you had to do that.

So can any of that email be recovered if it wasn't saved to another folder?
I saw another thread about hidden folders...would all those email messages be found there, recovered, and then imported back into windows live mail on the new hard drive?

Thanks much for your help...I am getting the run-around and I just want to make sure this stuff can be recovered and that I understand what's what.

You said nothing about the folder existing in the original post. You said when you do an export, the file is way too small. You're most likely running a version of WLM after the 2009 version. If so, revert back to the 2009 version.

Thanks for that, sorry for the confusion, but how do I revert back to the 2009 version and retain my entails, as It appears that I can't back them up. They must exist somewhere?

    Hi Tony,

if you sign-in to WLM you won't have a problem retaining all your details & messages.

Only problem there is that when I installed WLM I didn't set a windows live account, just imported mail from my outlook express backup and set up the POP ans SMTP servers and that was it.
