Error message is "problem with live movie maker".

Same error message on all emails with photos.

I have reinstalled windows essentials - windows live movie maker and windows live photo gallery.
I have tried microisoft's "fix it"

I have updated all w7's updates

All other programs and systems are working.

What is wrong and how do I fix it?

Although Photo Gallery and Movie Maker are installed together, I was under the impression that they are separate programs. If so, shouldn't Photo Gallery (or Windows Photo Viewer for those who did not install Photo Gallery) be the default program for still images (like *.jpg)?

Also, have you tried to do a "repair" of Windows Live Essentials via Programs and Features?

Is the problem just with email slide shows, while the two programs work fine by themselves?

When I click on the link "slide show" under the pictures in the email which are shown as thumbnails across the top, I get a window for photo gallery. When I click the slide show link there, I get the "problem with live movie maker" error.

I could not find the Windows Essentials repair. I had previously redownloaded Essentials and reinstalled Photo Gallery and Movie Maker.

Photo Gallery and Movie Maker seem to work fine but I have not used either very much.

...I could not find the Windows Essentials repair...
Programs and Features; highlight the program to be repaired (Windows Live Essentials); click on "uninstall/change" at the top of the Programs and Features list; in the next window choose "repair".

I did that with no luck. The W7 problems are from my wife's computer. I am still on XP. For the past year or so, I have not had a useful reply to problems encountered in W7. During XP days, one could post a question on nearly any forum and receive a quick reply that worked. This past year, I have posted many questions about W7 on many forums and have seldom received a workable answer. I don't understand why that is except that W7 has become too complicated and convoluted for the average computer user to understand and cope with.

That is one reason I will not be going to W7 and W8 does not appeal to me. I'm in my 80s and hope that I can keep XP going for a few more years.

Thanks for trying to help and for allowing me to rant a little.
