    outlook fetching mail issues

Everytime I open Outlook to check my emails

I get could not fetch mail errors.

Then I when I manually click the button to fetch email it fetches the mail with no errors.

Using outlook 2010 32bit version btw.

Try going here and see if it gives you the option to change your live id name and password: Control Panel\User Accounts and Family Safety\User Accounts\Link Online IDs

Ensure you are getting the right password. You can double check by signing out of outlook.com and signing back in.

If that doesn't do what I think it does, let me know (ie doesn't change your live id password stored on the computer)

Additionally, go into outlook account and change your account (found under file). There should be a screen that asks all the info about your account and how it is set up. Ensure it is set up correctly. You can click 'test' to see if it works.

I have no accounts there and I'm refering to outlook 2010 program.

Do I need to add an account?

Well, I guess I was thinking windows live id had something to do with it. If you are using Outlook.com in outlook 2010 (or before), you will need the Outlook Connector Pack. This is a windows live essentials program. Windows live essentials just released an update for it, so you might update your live essentials, which should be as easy as downloading and installing the newer version: Windows Essentials: Other Programs

Aside from that, did you test your email settings, check if you have the right password in outlook.com (or hotmail.com, same thing)...?

I am not using my normal computer, so my responses are more general, sorry.

If you are absolutely sure all your settings are correct, you could try repairing outlook. Most likely, the problem lies with incorrect information entered into outlook.

Or perhaps you already updated? Was this working previously?

I was using Office 2010 Outlook.

It was my first time. I've got the outlook connector pack already and did test the settings and it came back as incoming and outgoing completed. A test message arrived and I got my mail for the first couple of minutes. However after closing Outlook and reopening it it fails to fetch the mail unless I specifically tell it to.

Furthermore I've tried everything and asked other people but they couldn't find a solution and tbh I don't really like the interface anyways. I really like the windows live mail 2012 program you suggested .

Can you answer the following questions please?

    1) Just curious on this one but is there such a thing as a hotmail connector pack and if so what is the different from that and a outlook connector pack. When I was trying to find a solution this confused me (just curious to know )

    2) Can you have desktop alert and sounds so everytime I recieve an email I will be notified?

    3) Is Windows live mail 2012 just effectively the same as outlook & thunderbird?

    1. the outlook connector pack refers to the outlook you have downloaded. So it is for hotmail.com and outlook.com both, they are the same thing.

    2. I know about desktop alerts, but not sure about sounds. I turn all windows sounds off, but I would think it were possible. These are all settings that you may have to find. Here is how to turn on desktop pop-ups: Turn on or off new message alert pop-up window - Outlook - Office.com

    3. not really. Outlook 2010 should be able to do a whole lot more than mail 2012, though they may be very similar. Never used thunderbird.

You can repair outlook if it is giving you trouble. This won't change settings: Repair or remove Office - PowerPoint - Office.com

^If that doesn't work, try testing your email once more and let me know if you still get those errors. Unfortunately I will be leaving shortly (vacation, yay). I don't have access to my computer with outlook to tell you more exact details on where everything may be found.

PS there is also a way to make emails come as soon as outlook starts up, and you can change how often it checks for emails, and stop it from checking for emails when you close out of it. That is what I have done on mine.

I've decided to use Windows Mail 2012
