You don't need an Addon to do this.

    1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter.
      • The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.

    2. Type browser.newtab.url in the search box.
    3. Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and change the url from about:newtab to about:blank. Alternately, you can change it to about:home for the Firefox Google home page, or type in your preferred home page, for example google.com.
    4. Click OK and close the about:config tab.

Thanks Travers but I have tried at least 8 times including restarts to no avail. When you mentioned the "New Tab Homepage" link it sounded familiar and I think I've been through this before. Just can't remember how I resolved it.

I will continue trying to solve this tomorrow. In the meantime, thanks everyone for helping.

    I didn't realize there were 2 pages.

Alabama: I've gone to this point but still no cigar:

I've even set both lines to false.

Try resetting your firefox to it default values and go from there just remember to save all your bookmarks you can do this just by exporting as a html file and save to desktop for later use.
To reset firefox to default simply type (firefox -safe-mode) in Run check all boxes and hit restart, your browser will now be brand new and bug free. Set your home page to what you like and install the addon I pointed you towards now all should be OK.

Then Google will open in a new tab.

    Easy

I tried for over an hour to get my tab pages back to the way they were. The poster that said Mozilla Add On would fix problem with tab pages coming up empty is absolutely correct. In addition, after you install and restart, you have to do NOTHING else. Thank you very much poster (since I cant see name while replying) I appreciate that not only was your advise actually correct, but it is very simple.
