I missed this thread when I had problems.
I had no problems using my Visa Debit card when shopping even when it came to the security page that Visa now uses before completing the actual payment but trying to make a payment to my mail order catalogue wouldn't work in Windows 7, it goes through all steps until it comes to the security check part and then fails so obviously some sites don't like IE8.
As I said I missed this thread about trying compatibility or other things I just booted back into Vista and made my payment without problems
I found in AskVG (forever gratefull to Vishal) an article on how to run multiple versions of IE - There is a tool called Internet Explorer Collection. Looks promising.

There is something you can do to have functionality of any ie in 7. Use the Windows Virtual PC to run XP Mode. There you can install programs that either will not work in 7 or install different browsers in an XP environment. Link below
Windows Virtual PC: Home Page
I am not sure what the problem is, but IE8 does not let me type on chatrooms as I was able to with older versions of IE. Does anyone know how to solve the issue?
You can just use an IE7 Portable. I use it on my Windows 7. Works OK.
here is the link where I got it: IE7 Portable

We use many Oracle applications that use IE7. IE8 just won't work, and no idea when Oracle will catch up.
This thread is partially true in stating you can't install IE7 in Windows 7 as IE8 comes pre-loaded. Yet with the following KB you can downgrade by uninstalling IE8 which in turn will revert you to IE7.
How do I uninstall or remove Internet Explorer 8?
