New formats for IE and WL Mail

I have a new PC with Windows 7 Home Premium +SP1. I dislike new formats of IE 9 (9.0.10), and Windows Live Mail 2012 (Build 16.4.35). Before, I had V2009 Build 14.0.8 How can I change these? Thanks

Have you created the factory recovery discs for your new PC?
If not, do it now before something happens and you can't create them.
I also suggest creating a System Backup Image using a program such as Macrium Reflect so you can restore the system if needed.

To make the changes you want, you may end up causing more problems than you have now.
Make sure you have a recovery plan before making changes.

As this is new PC with Win7 SP1, I'm guessing IE9 is built-in, and is not an update that can be uninstalled to revert back to IE8.
If that's the case, I'm not sure IF OR HOW you can uninstall IE9 without re-installing Windows with an older Win 7 ISO that had IE8.

Personally I recommend using IE9 as newer versions of programs include better security.
Yea it's different and there is a learning curve, but if this old dog can learn and adapt...

If you do revert back to WLM 2009 from WLM 2012 make sure you have completely removed Windows Live 2012 before installing Windows Live 2009.
In my experience, installing an older version of any program over a newer version is asking for trouble!

Thank you so much, David, for your time and advice. I am indeed a very old dog, but I guess I can learn and that would be safest. I may have a look at Thunderbird and Firefox, though, to see if they have resisted making themselves more complicated!

I use Firefox so if i can help you with that, let me know.
It is the only browser that i know of with the NoSquint addon - greatest thing since sliced bread (for readability)!

I can point you to a place to get WLM 2009, but I don't to want hear you installed it and have more problems because of me ...

What don't you like about WLM 2012?

If you do want to get back to IE8, it's best if you wait for others with more knowledge than me for advice...

Thanks again, David. I have used Firefox before and quite like it, and Thunderbird is clearer than WLM 12. I like to have a proper, simple, text, menu bar, where I can see everything I need to do or look at (eg "properties", without silly icons. It took me a while to accept WLM 2009, but 12 is a step too far.You have to negotiate the icons to find, with difficulty, even the most important command - "send/receive"!
I have the same beef with MSWord from 2007 up (I still use Word 2003 with converters), with Google Chrome, which my son insisted I try for simplicity sake, and now with the latest IE.
The new PC (just a good refurb) is for my husband who is being weaned from his beloved Amstrad WPCs (last user on earth?) and taking a computer beginners course. I have to set it up to be as simple as possible, or he will continue to leave me to set up, save, organise and send his documents and emails as he does at present!
I think developers cannot resist putting fancy bells and whistles to show their cleverness, without improving the product at all.

I know the newer versions of MS programs with the Ribbon are a learning curve...

If this new PC doesn't have any WLM on it, installing 2009 should not be a problem.
