    Final Release Issues

I just installed a clean version of Win 7 Pro (Final) on a machine that has been running Vista Business (without any issues) I have a few issues I would like to get some feedback on. Everything works great except, IE 8 which installs with Win 7 will not show some sites Like https://login.live.com (Site blank with a "Done" at the bottom Left)Nor will it allow me to add new search engines...goes through the motions but nothing appears Will not show security images including the one for registering on this forum. (had to use FF)The system seems to work but when I go to add gadgets, they either don't show the actual gadget, shows the tool for moving and Closing. Gadgets worked just fine in Vista and I was using IE 8 on Vista without any issues. Anything to do that might fix this?

Welcome to the forums sevendown. Hope you enjoy your stay.

You might try a clean install of IE. Uninstall it, then reinstall it.

    Been There

I believe that IE 8 is treated as a component and not a program in the operating system so while you can de-activate it you cannot un-install it. In fact before you can download another copy (the browser knows) you must turn it off under the windows...this I did then downloaded with FF, installed it, same issue...but not sure it was even re-installed as it never showed up as a new program. Getting ready to re-install the 7 again...will post my experience.

It is, but I know there is a way to uninstall it...

Try a repair install as well.

Ok decided to re-install (Clean)...Used the Ultimate Version...works fine. Do you think that the following may have been an issue.

    1. Both times I installed from my XP drive to a new drive.
    2. During the "Check for Updates" sessions I believe the XP saw the new updates and asked me if I wanted to restart, which I did thinking it was the 7 install asking me. On the first I had walked off and it had time to install most of the system…but on this one I said yes immediately and it restarted in XP. Leaving very little of the install files completed...in fact not enough to get to a win 7 reset.

Anyways I ignored the restart query and let the system go through its normal routine which seemed to work fine...

Doing the upgrade from XP may have indeed caused it.

    Glad it is fixed now.

Just so we're on the same page...XP does not allopw an upgrade path...it was a clean install.
