    Google Chrome will not install

    Hello.

I recently uninstalled the version of google chrome that came "stock" with my toshiba satellite. When I decided to reinstall chrome I keep getting error: 0x8004071b, and I cannot install the software. I have been searching the internet and have found that tons of people are recently getting this error with no working fix. I have tried making sure that there is no trace of google on my computer in my program files, like was suggested, i have ran the registry cleaner, as suggested, and I'm out of ideas.

The one fix I saw was in this forum, saying the only way to fix it was to find it in the program files of a healthy running windows 7 computer and copy those files into your own system and install from there, however, that does not seem to be a healthy fix to me, and i currently do not even have the means to test this.

*I should note that when I uninstalled google chrome, it struck me as unusual because it just disappeared from my programs list in my control panel without any prompt, and the pinup actually stayed on my computer and i had to manually delete it.*

Im using a Toshiba Satellite and running windows 7 64bit home premium.

    Does anyone have an ideas?

Nevermind, I was able to fix the problem, let me post how in the event that anyone else experiences this.

After I uninstalled google chrome and got the error message, I tried the above steps. However, when I manually went into my program files (x86), I did find a google folder, it did not come up in a system search, it was hidden for some reason. When I tried to delete this folder, it said i could not, because it was open in another program. I then had to use the administrative permission to try to open every file in the folder (it was only about 6 items), and after clicking on each they disappeared. Afterwards I was able to delete the google fold from my program files (x86) completely. I searched for all other traces and found none, I then ran the google installer and it installed the most recent version of chrome without any problem.

Hope that helps if anyone else runs into this issue.

I was having this very same issue and followed your steps, but I was still getting same error. So I tried to uninstall all the adobe software because for some reason I remembered reading that somewhere when I came across this error before but couldn't find that post again. I'm not sure if its a certain adobe pre-installed software or all of them but I followed these steps and also uninstalled adobe programs and it worked right away. I hope this might help people still experiencing this problem.
