    Can't print through any browser.

Hi - My HP Laserjet 1020 printer prints without any problems until I try and print 'through a browser'.
If I try and print an email from Live Mail, I get a message saying I have to 'choose a printer'. And even though the HP printer is listed, the 'Print' button is still greyed out. The printer comes up as 'ready', but if you hover over the printer name, 0 shows up in the 'Documents' line.
When I try to print through any browser - I've tried Firefox, IE, and Chrome, all I get is 'unknown printer error', and that's it.
I have updated the drivers from HP; runs Windows update; done 2 full virus/malware scans; and tried the Windows 'Fix it' route; and disabled add-ons in Firefox.
Any ideas would be appreciated. I'm running Windows7 64bit on a Sony Vaio laptop. Thanks.

Is the printer set as the "default" print device?

Make sure the printer is set to default, right click the printer, click set as default.

If this dosnt resolve your issue, as a test, try creating a new user account, make sure printer is set to as default, try print from browser. If it works, it will be a user setting within your user account.

    Settings

Hi and thanks, however the printer IS set as ''default printer'', and creating a new user account didn't make any difference. It's as if the computer recognizes the printer, but the printer thinks there isn't anything in the print queue (when trying to print from Live Mail), whereas trying to print from a browser it just come up as ''unknown printer error''. Thanks.

Have you tried a full uninstall of the printer (and software), restart the PC and do a complete new install? I know this is a hassle but something to consider. Also, when (if) you do the reinstall, physically disconnect the printer from the PC after the uninstall and before you reboot. Do not reconnect the printer until the HP install program tells you.

Hi - I'll try an 'uninstall' and 'reinstall' after lunch and post the 'result' later. Thanks

Hi... deleted printer from 'devices'... did a 'restart'... plugged printer in... message comes up 'new device found - loading printer drivers'... - hey presto, Live Mail and browser files print..! Thanks for all your thoughts and fireberd for the two suggestions.
