So I've been big on portable apps for the last couple of years. I have hardly anything installed and about 15 portable apps that I run off a secondary drive.
Lately, Chrome has been installing itself even after I uninstall it and I can't figure out why. It really ticks me off. The only thing I've changed in my behavior is that I now sign into Gmail with Chrome and finally bought an Android phone, installed Google Voice on the phone and sort of use Chrome to send stuff over to my phone as I learn Android.
I ran a Virus scan and MSE picked up nothing. Anyone has a suggestion on what to check for.
I don't use Chrome so these are just some guesses on my part.
- If you're signing in to Gmail using Chrome it may be reinstalling itself each time you sign in.
- Perhaps Google Voice requires Chrome and it syncs itself to any other device such as your computer.
- If you've updated or reinstalled Adobe, Java, etc they often pre-check a Chrome installation. If you're not careful you get unwanted "stuff" installed.
After uninstalling Chrome through control panel, you could try manually uninstalling Chrome by editing the registry.
You could also search the registry for any reference to googleupdate, delete all keys referring to it, and also delete the folder(s) containing Google Update (in C:\Users\[yourname]\AppData\Local, ... LocalLow and ... Roaming), as well as Task Schedules (in C:\Windows\Tasks).
When editing the registry I suggest making a system restore point "just in case".
Hi everyone
If you install the latest adobe reader (XI) it installs Chrome whether you want it to or not -- there's no option to say install or don't install.
Note --I've nothing against the Chrome browser - but if I want to install it I should have the choice.
I'm surprised at adobe doing...
