Windows Activation Technologies Plugin for Mozilla

I have this plugin for Firefox (Ver: 7.1.7600.16395) enabled, but can't seem to find any information about what it does, or required, or even if it is genuine. I searched Microsoft for the answer to no avail.
Can anyone shed a light on this?

Just curious, but what would be the point of something like this? Unless a person is running IE6, why would anyone fear running IE that much?

For the same reason that I also run several other browsers, as well as different Linux distributions.
    Curiosity.

I am not debating or questioning the concept of using other browsers. I don't know anyone who has just IE installed on a computer alone...no others. My point was, why wouldn't anyone just use IE for Updates and Activation...and then use their other browsers choice for everything else? I don't see a need to avoid IE to that level. I prefer Chrome, to be honest, but I still use IE for Microsoft related things, such as Updates, TechNet, Sharepoint, etc.
