Likewise these are my 2 shell32.dlls. http://sdrv.ms/XGKMhO They are only icon and folder changes, if you still have your VM running could you pop these in and see how you get on.
Just try this out Danny and IE 10 would not even start. I noticed your .dlls were quite a bit bigger than the original yours are running about 20 to 21 mb and the originals are about 12 to 13 mb. If you like I could make some for you using Restorator and see if that makes a difference.

    Jerry
Thanks Jerry at least I know its not just me.

Mmmm Not really sure why they have grown so much as there are no added icons in the shell32 dlls just replacements, the icons I have added must be in extra sizes or something.
I don't want to waste your time Jerry but if you want to try with restorator see what the difference is that great. Do you want me to upload the icons and origional shell.dlls to my skydrive or you just going to extract them from the old shell.dll.

One other thing has IE10 been dropped from windows update now I'm no longer been offered it.

    Danny

Edit - I have just tried again on a clean install on a spare drive, still wasn't offered IE10 through windows update but the standalone version installed fine. I then altered 1 icon in the 2 imageres.dlls and rebooted and all was still fine. The same for the DeviceCenter/imagesp1/zipfldr all fine. Then changed a single icon in the shell32.dlls and bang gone again, so its not the size of the files it just doesn't like the dll been altered for some reason.

I will extract them. Is it just the icons that are changed?

I have never had windows update offer IE 10

Well I can't thankyou enough Jerry looks like you was spot on again (rep is owed it wont let me at the moment). I have IE10 installed along with all my dlls and your shell32.dlls and everything is working fine.
The size of your dlls is are the same infact one is larger so its not a size issue and I know there not corrupt as I have redone them a few times so the fault may lie with resource hacker as you mentioned before.
Again Jerry thankyou you are a credit to these forums mate

How about this for a kick in the head, If any of you are using 7tsp to install icons, don't, I think it is the way 7tsp processes the shell32.dll file that is causing the problem with the error.
Just for shits and giggles I installed one of Mr. Grim's older full glass icon packs with the old batch installer (Pre 7tsp), IE 10 now works normally even with the shell32.dll file being modified. Looks like it must be something to do with the way 7tsp processes the shell32.dll file that prevents Internet Explorer 10 from functioning.
