IE will not connect to any webpages and firefox will not start

Ok, yesterday evening all was well, then suddenly i tried to go online using firefox 19 (my usual web browser) and it would not start, i just get a dialogue box stating that firefox had crashed.

I then tried IE (i think 9), it opens but just keeps trying to load the web page and nothing else, the message at the bottom of the window is "A problem with this web page caused IE to close and reopen the tab" and it then sits trying to reload. I cant try another web page as it just does the same.

I checked to see if it was a trojan problem but to no avail (Malwarebytes found nothing, including running the rootkit beta, virus scan found nothing either).

I just installed chrome and this is working fine. The only thing i did last night was update windows and firefox, have tried to do a system restore but this keeps failing.

    Everything else seems fine.

    All help appreciated please

did you happen to install the update kb2670838 yesterday?
If so this is your problem because so many have the same problem
Uninstall the update- reboot and you should see everything go back to normal

And again. I uninstalled the update the last time, marked it to hide and then, lo and behold i try to use firefox today and have the same problem. It turns out that the update kb2670838 has been installed again. How I don't know. Surely microsoft know about the problem so why allow it to be installed????

    Anyway uninstalled AGAIN.
