windows live email will receive but will not send; error # 0x800CCC0E

running windows live in windows 7, service provider comcast. after many months of working fine, suddenly i cannot send out emails but still can receive them. have tried changing the outgoing service port number to 465 with no result, so changed back. i have of course restarted the computer numerous times. my account is sbcglobal.net yet yahoo's name is in the account information. i also have two web-based yahoo accounts and they work fine.

Does any of these accounts need ssl checked?
Are you using comcast for your smtp?
If yes the smtp should be smtp.comcast.net. Port 587

I f I may suggest if you know when this problem stated Timo how about a system restore to when it wa good. Could be just a Windows update that has thrown it out of whck.

Plus I am assuming you have run some on call scans for malware??

incoming pop.mail.yahoo.com outgoing smtp.att.yahoo.com requires authentication checkd (tried it with unchecked and problem remained, checked it again, but i don't know what this is for). i have avast and zone alarm running all the time. i tried checking ssl but it did not solve it, so i unckecked it. my isp is comcast but my pop and smtp are yahoo, as you see. (i do not understand this.)

will try system restore now and report back asap. thanks.

i restored the system back to march 11, which is two days before the problem emerged, but the problem is still there. is it p[ossible that the problem lies with my isp, comcast, since it did not go away when i restored my computer system to a state where it had been working fine?

Possible mate but you are running two AV's I notice - generally accepted by most as a no go issue. It could be them conflicting I don't know for sure but a certain possibility.

Personally I would at least disable one of them or if one is a free version uninstall it. I don't know much about Zone Alarm but I do know there are plenty of members who use Avast as their main security.

I also think you should run these on call scanners they will not interfere with the main security.

after i wrote the above i discovered that zone alarm was not actually running. i don't know why that is or how long that has been the case. but i have been running those two for years and have had no problem until march 13 this year. will try the programs you suggest.

What version of Avast are you running?
They recently released Avast 8, and did make a change in how email is scanned with that release.

I also don't understand how you have Comcast as the ISP and sbcglobal.net in your account!
From what I know, SBC is part of at&t now, but Comcast is not...
Did you switch providers from SBC to Comcast?
