IE10 fails to install on HP laptop running Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit

Hi, I've tried various things to try to get IE10 to install:
    Ran SFC /scannow - ok
Ran the SUR check - ok
Checked the prerequisites list - some say 'already installed' - some say 'not applicable to your system' (which means...? And yes, I did use the x86 versions.
    Tried the troubleshooter.
Tried and failed to uninstall IE9.
Noted IE10 listed in Control Panel features. But IE9 is installed and runs.

Discovered reports that IE10 will not install on a range of laptops equipped with 'hybrid graphics cards'.
Internet Explorer 10 bug blamed on hybrid graphics | bit-tech.net
Internet Explorer 10 does not install on PCs with hybrid video cards

    These require updated graphics drivers.
I updated my graphics driver, taking the risk that a generic laptop driver might or might not work.
IE10 still didn't install. (Could be the driver isn't yet updated for IE10..but how does one know?).

    What happens?
IE10 fails from the standalone installer first:
'Downloading required updates' (which updates?) - progress bar to about 80%.
Then 'Internet Explorer did not finish installing'.

The log file shows an apparent failure to download sthg, but I can download this manually from the URL shown in the log file.

Details posted here: (I'm dal987) including the log file.
IE 10 Installation Fails - Neutral package installation failed

    - where a number are experiencing the same thing.

Naturally it fails via Windows Update too. Unexpected error, 9c59 (which a number of people have experienced).

    Ideas welcome.. thanks!

Thanks, here are the CBS.log CheckSUR log files
(The log file generated by IE10 is in the forum link given above).

As you say, the CheckSUR is clear.

The only odd entry I can see in the CBS log (the SFC data seems to have been archived already) is right at the end -

2013-03-20 06:34:32, Info CBS Failed to unload the COMPONENTS hive. [HRESULT = 0x80070005 - E_ACCESSDENIED]

This can happen for a variety of reasons - and I don't think it's anything to worry about.

The problem usually is not with IE10 so much as with the KB2670838 update, which is normally installed at the same time as IE 10 - and doesn't usually come to attention until after everything is installed.

perhaps a look at the C:\Windows\Windowsupdate.log file would tell us something about what's happening, so please upload that - but be warned that I know very little about the workings in that file, so unless it's something obvious I could well miss it!

    Thanks Noel.. also somewhat reassuring..!
Had a look for KB2670838 and found this:

Platform Update (KB2670838) for windows 7
    - seems it's a bit troublesome.

It's not installed on my PC (which I guess is what you'd expect).

I ran the sfc scan quite a while back, and since then I've run ccleaner.

What do you think of the idea that IE10 is dependent on yet to be released video card driver updates? (The two links I posted).

(From the log I posted in the forum I quoted originally:
What the IE10 downloader tries to download (and fails to install) is Windows6.1-KB2718695-x86.cab.
I believe this to be the download of IE10.
    Failure is listed as:
Process exit code 0x0000371B (14107) [One or more required members of the transaction are not present. ]
In the log is a reference to '0 prerequisites' suggesting there are no outstanding prerequisites.

Will have a look for the log file. Basically there are no incomplete updates, no outstanding failed updates, just some related to parts of Office 2003 I don't have installed that I've hidden.

Beyond that, I've been getting an Action Centre notification of some PnP driver that fails to download. I'm guessing that might be related to my EzCAP device, which needed reinstalling after a new install of Win7 and moving things with Laplink PCmover.

    I've been called worse :)

There are a lot of this type of error there....

0x80248014 WU_E_DS_UNKNOWNSERVICE An operation did not complete because the service is not in the data store.

I suspect that the problem is therefore in the Softwaredistribution folder

Googling around, it seems that a program called Stardock can cause similar problems - uninstalling it solves the issue.

    Just in case....

Hi.. Well, I have Stardock's Fences running..
For what it's worth, System Explorer reports no suspicious processes running.

Looking back, 2 or 3 updates required several attempts to install, and I guess some of those reports may relate to my numerous attempts to install IE10.
