Cannot download certain files from the internet... please help

So in the past several months my computer has stopped downloading files from the internet. It wont download rar, zip, or big files like that. I tried downloading them in firefox, internet explorer, and chrome, but it still does not work. When I try downloading a file for example, and im using chrome, in the bottom left corner it will just say waiting for dl.______ and the loading circle will be there next to it. But the download will never start. This is really frustrating. Can someone please help?

Now, is this only big files, past a certain size? What kind of internet connection do you use? Dialup, DSL, etc. Are there other PCs on the same connection, and do they have the same issue? A Guy

well. its just that i can download mp3s and pictures. i cant download zip or rar or this other one that had a 7 in it. i use dsl and there is another pc using this connection as well as a laptop. they do not have the same issue. i didnt have a problem until around january.

Some programs may be set to block certain file types, or attampt to scan within archives, and this would certainly delay a download, especially on slower connections.

Try this, make sure the file is from a trusted site. Boot to Safe Mode with Networking, and attempt to download the same file (.zip, .rar, .7z). See if the d/l works in safe mode.

Yes, I have tried downloading numerous things from trusted sites and they do not work. I will try this from safe mode.
