Jaycee - JHT log file requested: When I rt clicked on the download, there was no 'run as admin' option (even tried holding the shift button when rt clicking) so I clicked in 'run as another user' and put in my password in a box that looked like it was for an admin (had a blank picture box beside the entry) and that proceeded to install HJT so ran the scan from the install. If possible, would like to remove all and any reference to Bing & Microsoft MSN - will never ever use them. Thanks.

First, you will need to either un-install Spybot s&d or disable it ... it tends to over protect your home page.
Rescan with HJT...
Check these items:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = Bing
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = MSN.com
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = Bing
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = Bing
Close all open windows except HJT, then click "fix checked". Reboot normally and see if you can reset your home page and search provider.
Jaycee - Uninstalled Spybot2 but this HJT sure gave me a run - first wouldn't let me run in admin. and then did and kept getting this: "For some reason your system denied write acess to the host file. If any HJT domains are in the file, HJT may not be able to fix this." Ran three scans to complete. Ran a last scan to see if any fixes but could't get the page for 'scan and save a copy' page, so couldn't copy it here, but there are only 2 (R1's) left in final scan, so guess the bad ones are gone.
R1-HKCU\Software\Microsoft\InternetExplorer\main,default_page_URL
R1-HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\InternetSettings,proxy overide
Reset home page again and and within the hour my Google is still up there. Hope this for keeps and I don't have to post back again.
Any comments on why the problem with the running as admin. -- incompatibility because this is a 64bit system? Guess you would not recomment reinstalling Spybot hey??? :)
Thank you so much Jaycee for your help - most appreciated.

No doubt because it's a 64bit system, and HJT doesn't have a 'clue' about a 64bit system.
As long as you were able to replace your default home page and preferred search engine, then you are good to go!....
Delete/uninstall HJT and set a new restore point.
