Unable to load Gmail Chat and G+ Hangouts on Desktop's IE9

    Hello guys,

i posted this on a Google's forum but since there's no reply yet, i am trying here since there's so many cool people and usually "get things done", just for reference > Google Groups that's my other thread.. anyway..

i have a problem with my desktop PC, i cannot have the hangouts to load on Internet Explorer 9 as well as the chat (on gmail as well on my G+ page), please see attachs, i believe the problems are connected, i tried the usual clear cookies and cache, etc etc, i have also disabled firewall and antivirus, nothing! also reinstalled Java, JavaFX, dev kit, I did a scannow command and used the very good "tweaking.com's fixes, which fixed my other pc some time ago"... still there. I am using OpenDNS on my router.

as you can see from the attachments, the chat is not working in gmail, g+'s page and the hangouts get stuck. the webcam is correctly detected in the settings tho.

now, on the same machine, hangouts and chat work perfect on chrome & firefox and this drives me nuts!

and to make things more complicated, i have an HP laptop, SAME win 7 os and on that one, the hangouts and chat work OK with Internet Explorer 9! so the issue is within my Desktop PC for good! i tried to inspect the page but i cannot find if is a corrupted .js or something..perhaps the video card driver?

I have an NVIDIA 8600GT on the desktop and the laptop has a Ati Radeon and Intel HD 3000....

    other things i tried:

reinstall voice plugin, clean IE9 to factory settings with the menu, reinstalled java, reinstalled flash. nothing.

any more ideas? otherwise well i can use chrome or FF but is strange!

    thanks a lot!
    Gabrio

Try to create another (temporary for test) win7 user (or use account already on machine). Logon under that account. Same problem?

good point, i tried yesterday but not today after doing more cleanup, anyway i just created "test" standard user, fired up IE, opened G+ window (with chat on right) and there's something interesting, at the top i get:

Your browser configuration is not supported. Learn more Update to a modern browser Dismiss

maybe tells us something? it's the very same IE9 just on another account. on my standard admin account i never get that message.....chat not working on gmail page too.

in browser: help->about. sure it's IE9? Sure it's not in compatibility mode? Reset IE9 internet settings to default

see attach, it's ie9, not compatibility view ON.

resetted IE9 with that option, here's what happened. restarted IE9, loaded G+, he asked to "allow" ActiveX component for Google Talk, Video Acceleration and another one i can't remember, i ticked "allow for all websites", page refreshed twice and then same thing again, chat is broken.

    thanks

Which activex components? As far as i know they are only needed for videochat and hangout. Uninstall googletalk plugin. Try again from a fresh account. Describe everything what happens please

Internet options/ Advanced section/ Use Software rendering instead of gpu rendering/ Apply,
Security section/ Custom level button/ Enable Display mixed content,
Use the F12 key and verify Browser mode as ie9-not compat-view
    Document mode as Standards.

WOW i have fixed it! here's the steps, a bit risky i have to say:

i was pissed off nothing worked so i went the "hard" way, i uninstalled windows internet explorer 9 via the add remove programs, i thought HEY yeah i will simply roll back to IE8 and then i will clean and install it over again, EASY!

not so easy.... removing IE9 didn't give me back IE8, the folder remained empty and didn't load at all and also gave an error while coming back with the restart, since that was installed After SP1 (where IE8 is installed) so i was stuck, cannot roll back pre SP1(thanks google chrome) if u dont have the backup files which i deleted obviously....about to bang my head on the wall, BUT i tried the unthinkable.... from my HP pc where i have 100% the same win 7 OS, updates and version, i copied the internet explorer folders, for both 32 bit and 64 bit, then ran a few tools to fix the corrupt files (Tweaking.com's tool), and it re registered the IE components, but still IE would NOT load.

so i loaded windows update and magically now it recognized the files there (even if they didnt work) and it gave me the option to install IE9 (and also IE10 for that matter), so i chose it and BAM! it worked and guess what????

GMAIL chat + hangouts with webcam now are fully working :)!!!!

TIP: if you ever uninstall IE9 and IE8 doesn't come back, make sure u have an alternative browser installed previously, otherwise you can't do anything!

i'm very happy, even though i didn't quite understand what was the problem, probably some core component of the IE installation!

Lots of Google things need Google Chrome to work.. otherwise it errors.

But IMHO it just isnt worth the hassle.

Try Chrome, we use Hangouts at work for conference calls but use Chrome for it.

    Give it a go.
