    according to Wikipedia the only versions compatible with Windows 7 is IE8, IE9, and IE10 and whats compatible on Vista is IE7, IE8, and IE9
    I expect that the Wikipedia article is out of date. It was accurate at the time it was written but things change.

    Backwards Compatibility does apply to all internet explorer versions as far as I know.
    ie11 might break that cycle/ windows 8 might as well-No further than ie9 ?

I am having an issue that it looks like many other have run into trying to upgrade from IE8/9 to 10 or 11. Other Windows Updates go through fine but anytime I try to install IE 10 or 11 via Windows Update or from the offline installer it fails with the error 9C59. A little backstory on this...
