I Can't Send Email in Windows Live Mail 2011

Suddenly I can't send new email nor reply to received emails in Windows Live Mail (WLM) 2011. I have no problem receiving emails, but when I try to send or reply I get the error message 'A problem has occurred. Please try again." Trying again and again does not help.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem would be appreciated. I have saved and organized many emails over the years and I don't want to lose them by doing a reinstall of WLM. And I'm not sure where/how to back up all these emails.

What if I did a restore to some point just before this recent WLM problem occurred........would that perhaps solve my problem and retain all my emails and associated folders?

Not sure I want to update to Windows Live Mail 2012.........I've not heard good things about it. Is there no other option for trying to resolve my current WLM 2011 problem? Thanks.........

You could try repairing WLM, to do so, contol panel>programs and freatures, select windows live essentials, choose repair option. Always a good idea to back up your mail,contats etc, just in case.

Knock on wood, my problem has gone away. Earlier tonight I completed the installation of approx 30 Windows 7 updates. Then I tried again to send an email and got a different error message, this one about the outgoing mail port number.......it didn't like the new 587, so I changed it back to 25. Then I closed and reopened WLM 2011 and all is well. I can now send email and reply to emails.
