IE10 Crashing and Freezing in Win 7 Ultimate

I did have a feeling Avast might of been going amuck,
You might try checking the Phishing filtering and see if it also causes the crashing or not,
Although ie10 has it's own I believe,

I can't believe at least one of these features isn't listed in manage add-ons,
Did you ever have any issues with Viewing-Previewing attachments or downloading files from emails.... this has been a hot topic in Answers.Microsoft.com forum,

Well done for staying with it. Rep for that. Have to say though that I notice it did turn out to be one of your a/v solutions and not specifically IE10:)
