Avast's Web Rep app jumped out at me. I disabled it and I haven't had a crash in several hours, despite keeping 10-11 tabs open
So this is a Browser add-on that you disabled in the Manage add-ons page ?
Love to see where exactly you disabled it.

Actually, it's part of Avast. I disabled it from within Avast.

If you could post a screenshot so if anyone comes here and has Avast they will clearly see the settings page,
Plus this would be a great referral thread,
Cheers for all of the patience throughout this :)

    Here's that screenshot as requested:

All I had to do was uncheck them.

    lol,
This will no doubt be a great referral page,
You did all the hard work your self,
I did have a feeling Avast might of been going amuck,
You might try checking the Phishing filtering and see if it also causes the crashing or not,
    Although ie10 has it's own I believe,
    Cheers.

I'm a firm believer in if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Since it appears it ain't broke, I'm leaving well enough alone. And yes, I'm a coward.

Enjoy Internet explorer for awhile there is no rush,
I can't believe at least one of these features isn't listed in manage add-ons,
Did you ever have any issues with Viewing-Previewing attachments or downloading files from emails.... this has been a hot topic in Answers.Microsoft.com forum,
    Cheers.

Well done for staying with it. Rep for that. Have to say though that I notice it did turn out to be one of your a/v solutions and not specifically IE10:)

Nope, the only problem is...er...was (hopefully) the crashing. I went to bed last night with 11 tabs open (I normally keep IE open only while I'm actually using it) and woke up with everything still working alright. So far, so good.
