Problem with certain YouTube videos - picture "bleeds"

I'm not sure what the proper term is for this problem, but I've recently noticed that the picture on certain YouTube videos gets very glitchy. The second example doesn't appear broken when viewed in HD, but the first (which has no HD options) and third appear no matter what quality the video is set to. This is the case on both my PC and my laptop and doesn't occur when watching the videos on my iPhone. Any advice?

Not sure if this is related but you could try:

    1. Right click the video on youtube
    2. Select 'Settings'
    3. Un-check 'Enable hardware acceleration'

See if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, disabling hardware acceleration doesn't help.

Does this occur on any other browsers, or only Firefox? Firefox also has it's own hardware acceleration setting

Open Firefox> Tools> Options> Advanced> Untick Use hardware acceleration when available

If no change, you can also run FF in it's own safe mode

    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb...sing-safe-mode

Useful to see if an extension is the issue

If the problem is repeatable, you can also boot to Safe Mode with Networking, and see if the problem occurs there

    Safe Mode

If it does not, you can try a clean start to see if there is a conflict

Updating video card drivers is always a suggestion when having video problems.

Thanks, Guy. I just woke up so I'll take a proper look at your post later today. For now, I can tell you that this also happens on Internet Explorer. I updated the AMD drivers on my laptop, but that didn't solve the problem. I haven't tried updating the NVIDIA drivers on my PC yet due to the many problems people were having a few months ago. I need to find out if the latest drivers are stable.

I am sorry, missed the part about both the laptop and PC. There must be a commonality to that. This would seem to be network, ISP, router, unless you have a certain program on both that would explain it. Try my suggestions later, and let us know how it went. A Guy

Sorry for the late response. Neither disabling Firefox's hardware acceleration nor starting Firefox in safe mode solved the problem. I haven't tried starting Windows 7 in safe mode yet and will let you know when I have.

Sorry for being slow again. I tried running Windows 7 in safe mode to see if that solved the problem, and testing it was harder than I expected it to be. Maybe it's because I was using Firefox, but while in safe mode, the two videos I tested (the second and third ones screencapped in my first post) kept jumping back after playing for a couple of seconds, automatically using the highest quality, then throwing up an error message and forcing me to reset. I managed to get a quick glimpse at the third video around at one of the points where the problem occurs, and the picture was still screwy.

So neither disabling Flash's hardware acceleration, disabling Firefox's hardware acceleration, using Firefox's safe mode nor using Windows 7's safe mode resulted in the video playing properly.

If it happens in safe mode in 2 different machines, the common would seem to be your internet connection. Have you tried the laptop at another location with a different provider. A Guy

Oh, I should probably point out that I've only tested my PC, not my laptop yet. I can try the different location/provider test on Monday.
