Should I disable add ons or does this indicate a different issue?

Yes to test if the error returns,
Use No Add-ons mode using either process,
    Cheers.

Thanks thrashzone for your efforts, unfortunately i did apply twice your solutions without any success in two different threads.
I'm like the OP, IE10 crashing nearly twice a day.

PS: I'm running Oc'ed at 4.2 everyday, but its the only app that is crashing when i close the IE browser windows (it had never happened while i'm browsing & surfin')

Your using a 64 bit system so you could test with Enhanced protection mode activated,
    Activate Enhanced protection mode,

    Very bazar situation,
I also have both a 64 bit and 32 bit system without any crashes at all,
I do not have Java installed and Flash is disabled for most of the time.
