Repeated errors when using Chrome and Firefox?

Thanks in advance for reading:

Regarding Chrome (and sometimes FF and IE), two very annoying problems:
1) At least once per day, I will try to do search in the address bar and I will get sent to a red screen that says "this is probably not the site you are looking for!". Its always the site I am looking for.
2) I very often get "404 error not found" when trying to go to (for example) to yahoo mail.

What am I missing here?

Try this, instructions from one of our Security MVPs Jacee. It will also serve your purpose:

Copy and paste these lines in Note pad

@Echo on

attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0

Save as flush.bat to your desktop

Right click the .bat file and choose to Run as administrator

Your computer will reboot itself
