    IE10 opens 2 tabs

IE10 has been opening 2 tabs in the last few days. I don't want 2 tabs to be open unless I specifically do that. I have already checked Tools/Internet Options, and only the home page I want is listed there. I have already restored defaults and restarted the computers-twice, but it's still opening 2 tabs when I open the browser. Please-how do I make it stop?!

    Thanks.

Gretch, Welcome to the windows 7 forum.

What are the url's that are on the two tabs?

Also, sometimes making the changes in the control panel for internet options will solve that problems. Might be a bunch of carriage returns in the options..

And if you did was there four green check marks displaying ?

    Confirm this process,
Reset process first opening Internet explorer

Rich, thank you for your quick response. When I clicked the link to your reply in the email I got, it opened the browser. The URLs are the seven forums link to this page, the 2nd tab just says, "IE10 opens 2 tabs-Windows". The first tab with the URL also has a magnifying glass to search with and the refresh symbol. The 2nd tab with "IE10 opens 2 tabs-Windows" has an X. If I were to click the X, it would close the Web, would ask me first if I want to close all sites that are open. Does that tell you anything?

Oops, I just now noticed your 2nd sentence. Sorry, but I don't know what you're referring to when you say >>sometimes making the changes in the control panel for internet options will solve that problems. Might be a bunch of carriage returns in the options.<< What "changes" are you referring to? I don't know where I would see the carriage returns, I'm not familiar with what you're talking about.

    Thanks again,

Gretch, the options home page info could be like

    http://sevenforums.com

    http://whatever.com

Notice it only looks like 1 url but the blank spaces lead to the second one.

Thanks again, Rich. I checked my Internet options and there is indeed only one URL for the homepage, no spaces. Can you think of anything else I should be looking at?

gretch, I would change the homepage to something like google.com and see what happens the next time you open the browser.

    IE10 opens 2 tabs

I changed it to the browser default page, MSN.com, and it still opens 2 tabs. One tab is the whole URL: MSN.com and it also has the search icon, the arrow for "show address bar autocomplete", compatibility view, and refresh icon, all off to the right side of the tab. The other tab has the Microsoft butterfly and it says only msn.com, also has an X to close the tab. When I click that X, it closes both tabs, which, of course, closes the Internet. If I had opened any other tabs, clicking that X only closes the first two tabs I described here.

    Puzzling.....

I believe it's time to post some screen shots of your Uninstall a program list and possibly even Show All Add-ons/ toolbars and extensions and Accelerators pages although the Uninstall a program list will probably show everything you've installed as add-ons,
See the link above my Signature picture on how if you need it,
    Cheers.
