    FireFox home page

    Hi,This may a strange question.
My son phoned me today and asked if it was okay to have the FF home page open on screen all the time,Not to close it with the red X top right. What he was thinking of just closing it down to the task bar for quick access.
I didn't know what to say to that question,What are the thought of the brains here please.
    Many Thanks..

i would close firefox, its not like it takes forever to load, unless you have loads of addons. i do, and it still takes a very short time to load.
keeping it running is just making the computer work for no reason, ram etc.
im not so technically minded but the processes used would be better used elswhere when FF is not running.

He can pin FF to the taskbar, and open it with 1 click. FF is known to be prone to memory leaks, and could continue to consume more and more memory the longer it's open. Closing and opening again the the easiest way to free up that memory.

Taskbar - Pin or Unpin a Program

He can try leaving it open, it will not break anything, but he will have to see if it affects performance.

What does your son use for the Home Page?
I help some people where opening the (any) browser Home Page is slow...
I often find that their Home Page "loads the world"...needlessly
After talking with them, we figure out they really don't need or use all the "junk" loaded in the Home Page.
They use a few of the of the links/options on the Home Page, but couldn't care less about the rest of the "junk".
Maybe time to think about a new home page?

With FF there are some settings that might help...
I use FF with "Show my windows and tabs from last time" and "Don't load tabs until selected" and that works well for me to "start the browser quickly".
It reloads my previous FF session (which could be my Home Page if that is how I closed the browser).
Yes, I have to reload the "current" page to get the latest, but this technique might show if your son has a problem with starting FF, or the problem is loading the Home Page ...

I use tabs and usually have 2-10 tabs open.
I may close FF or the PC may go to sleep with the FF window open...
Either way FF "starts quickly" imho, and a simple "reload page" works for me.
