Got me as well.
In addition, Firefox was going to drop its Flash Player plugin, the only one remaining, because it's been such a disaster for so many years. Half the problems (my own estimate) seen on Mozillazine were about Flash.
Publishing date on this one is September 10, 2019. O_o
The Flash player is being discontinued. Flash the program, which is different has been renamed Animate CC. But Flash has fallen behind, and is unneeded. Along with all it's insecurities. All major browsers have/will have discontinues support by then.

Xfinity streaming to PC requires Flash. It will be interesting to see if they will be ready when all browsers no longer support it...

I'm amazed anyone still uses anything Flash. Heck, I've completely abandoned any and everything of Adobe's (other than using PDFs but with programs other than Adobe's).
The program is for animation and vector graphics, and such. It can be published in several formats including HTML5, WebGL, and Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) animation. Adobe Flash Player and Adobe AIR (also being discontinued) are just methods to view the content, and is what is being discontinued.
With a modern browser, it shouldn't be an issue unless a favored site is slow to change, or does not change. A Guy
