Help Me Understand
I don't mind updating software to keep my computer safe, but flash updates seem more numerous than flies on a manure pile. The more irritating is that the latest and greatest seem to be important so that games can be played to their fullest potential and flash-bang film advertisers can do their thing in a banner ad on Yahoo.
Does anyone track the number of user hours spent supporting this ridiculous enterprise? It might even be having an impact on the gross national product; it certainly can't be claimed to be improving our productivity.
thanks

Also fed up with updates
I agree, too many updates all the time. It's not just Adobe to blame, Apple with constant iOS and iTunes updates and MS with patch Tuesday. Seem to be updating all the time. I don't mind in the interest of security but it's the fear that updates break something or remove functionality. Adobe seem more frequent than most though.

Well I'm still using Opera 12 rather than the newer chromium based versions of Opera.
However - try this. Start Opera. Press [Alt+P] and choose:
Settings> Websites then under Plugins enable "Click to play"
That way flash content doesn't run anyway until you click the individual element. It stops those malicious flash adverts from loading.

Flash most likely has security flaws that only the black hats know about. There is no point in asking, "is it safe to use now?" I'm not sure how anyone here could know that answer for sure.
There are forums where Flash exploits are sold. Perhaps those forum members could tell you how many Flash exploits are being held in reserve. The same goes for operating system exploits, Java exploits and exploits for the major browsers.
