Internet Explorer 11 Desktop Icon not Showing

    Hello all.
First time here and probably not the last on account of Murphy's Law.
My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium Edition (x64).
I installed IE11 with no problems.
Once completed, I rebooted but could not locate the IE desktop icon.
Inspected the Internet Explorer folder. All files seem to be there including the .exe file. After clicking on this IE11 .exe file, nothing happened.
Checked the Control Panel to ensure IE11 was in fact installed and that it was "activated." All in order.
This is a mystery as I have used previous versions of IE without any problems.
Any attempts, to resolve this glitch, will be appreciated greatly. Cheers.

    Hello Rattler,

Close your browser. Go to the Start Orb>Search. Type Internet Explorer. Right click, on Internet explorer. Drag and drop onto the desktop. Select Copy here.

Internet Explorer 11 Desktop Icon not Showing

Hi John. Well I tried your possible solution but it did not completely work. The IE icon appeared on the desktop no problem. However, clicking on it does not work. Once clicked, the icon "thinks" it wants to work for a split second and then becomes dormant.
I was wondering if my problem originated when I uninstalled the previous version IE10.
Tried a System Restore but no favourable results.

    Rattler,

Try this: The Internet Explorer icon is missing from your desktop

If the auto fix tool doesn't work, then click the link there "Let me fix it myself" try both methods.

    Regards,

    Welcome to the Seven Forums.

I'll assume that you doubled clicked on the EXE file. if so, then there is not much sense in playing with desktop shortcuts. Your system has a problem with the IE install.

    You can try this scan:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

And you can also try this tool:
SF IE Restorator - Troubleshooting General Issues with IE

Internet Explorer 11 Desktop Icon not Showing

Hello. Thank you for your suggestions. I had tried the sf /scannow option but discovered there were some corrupted files. Will attempt the IE Restorator operation. Hopefully this will work. It may be the solution I'm looking for. A complete overhaul of my IE files. Cheers.

    Hello Rattler,

Follow the directions in the System File Checker tutorial.

If you need to replace a corrupted system file that SFC cannot fix, then this will show you how to by extracting a new copy directly from your Windows 7 installation DVD.
