    Can't connect to one site

    Hello. I'm trying to help a friend get her laptop to connect with the bank website again. We don't know what has happened. All ping requests time out even in Safe Mode.
    This is the URL www.santander.com.br that redirects to Akamai servers on my other PCs. Both time out.

    So far, I have done this below. May I please have any help?
    MSE and Malwarebytes complete scans;
    Firewall reset and disabled;
    Internet Options and browser extensions reset;
    All custom bars uninstalled - Bing, Ask etc;
    WiFi adapter driver uninstalled and updated.

    There might be a problem outside of your control.

    www.santander.com.br works fine.
    That website does not redirect to any other site.

    You might want to change your DNS to OpenDNS.

    Thanks. All I have with me now is the IP of the Akamai servers that my Ping requests were redirected to: 187.87.8.45. That was last night when I tested the website on my own PC on my LAN that worked fine.

    OpenDNS is already set on my router and my friend's laptop is indeed using their servers.
    Just to be clear. Both www.santander.com.br and 187.87.8.45 time out on my friend's laptop - on her LAN and on my LAN. I don't think it's anything about browser options and extensions if the ping requests fail even in Safe Mode. So what could be blocking that site?

    P.S. The redirection is probably caused by the user location.

    187.87.8.45 does not respond to ping requests for me
    Nor can I surf to
    http://187.87.8.45/
    or to
    https://187.87.8.45/

    I'm not sure what to make of this whois info for that IP address:
    Whois Search - Domain Name Search | Whois lookup | Availability Checker

    www.santander.com.br and www.santander.com both respond to pings...
    ...but it is possible that we are pinging different servers.
    www.santander.com.br resolves to e2065.b.akamaiedge.net [23.204.232.145]
    www.santander.com resolves to e3769.b.akamaiedge.net [23.204.239.87]

    The HOSTS file could be blocking the website, but it would not block a ping or attempts to surf directly to the IP address. I'm not sure what try next. Let's see what others think.

    It was the HOSTS file indeed with this entry: 204.2.199.201 www.santander.com.br # gbplugin
    That's the bank's own anti-phishing (junk) software. Well done, Santander!

    Thanks a lot, UsernameIssues! Your help was much appreciated.
