GOOGLE Search page always displayed on Firefox new page (+) openings

Using Mozilla Firefox. I have set Home Page as blank, so the initial screen is blank. When the + to open a new tab is clicked the page is always displayed as a FIREFOX START page displaying a GOOGLE Search in the middle of it. (happens on at least v-24.0 thru 26.0 beta)

How in the heck do I get rid of it... ?
I do not want to see GOOGLE stuck in my face even if I will not use it.. Damn!
    Thanks

    Hi idahjo,

Type about:config in the address bar, press enter, click I'll be careful, I promise!
copy & paste into the search box.
    browser.newtab.url
    Right click & select modify
    Input the page you want
or about:blank for a blank page.

AMAZING! Thanks Roderunner -I knew someone would know the answer. I fooled around a couple hours searching for an answer but only found for the initial opening window.

Interesting sideline... the first time I tried your 'fix' I moved too fast and overlooked "ABOUT:" and only put in 'blank'. When I tried it that way and opened a new tab, it said 'connecting...' then popped up juego.com (a Spanish speaking casino site) ...

Changed it to "about:blank" EXACTLY as you said and it indeed pops up blank

    THANKS AGAIN

    Your very welcome.

I have https://startpage.com/ open when I click to open a new tab, it doesn't keep a record of what I'm doing.

    Google???

<Joking> I flinched when I saw Google (it was one of the sites I was running away from) but after reading it, it appears they are 'riding GOOGLE's horse anonymously'.
    Trying it out; Thanks Roderunner!
