IE 11 opens in taskbar, but unable to see the IE window on screen

I have a client with Win7 Home Premium 64-bit on a HP desktop about 2 years old.

Clicking the IE icon will start the app, and it shows as an active icon in the taskbar. However, clicking on any of the active thumbnails will not bring the window to maximized size. Clicking "Close Window" will not close the app. Need to use Task Manager to shut down IE.

Right clicking on the IE icon in the taskbar, then IE, then MAXIMIZE will not restore the window either.

Restarting the PC does not remedy the problem.

I have gone into Control Panel/Programs & Features/Turn Windows Features On and Off and have removed IE 11, restarted and then added IE 11 back, but the problem still persists.

The client has no other browsers installed, so I can't go online to download a different browser such as Chrome or Firefox, or even reinstall IE 11 or get IE 10.

I'm thinking of downloading on my PC a portable version of a browser. Any suggestions as to which on to get?

I'd appreciate some suggestions for what to try next.

    Thanks,
    Ken

    Hello Ken,

You might check using the method in the tutorial below to see if the IE window may just be offscreen, and to drag it back onscreen if so.

Offscreen Window - Move Back to Desktop

    Hope this helps, :)

Thanks for the response to my query.

I tried the suggestions for bringing an off-screen window back on screen via phone with client, but it did not appear that the windows were off-screen, as the MOVE and RESTORE commands were grayed out.

I will try resetting IE to default settings via the Control Panel Internet settings applet.
