    Extremely slow Startup

I am still having problems getting my PC up and running each day. When I turn it on it goes through the normal startup screens but when I get to where I can click on a program (IE 10, Email, Link) it takes forever. Live Mail will freeze about five times before it settles in. Likewise when I try to connect to the internet the start page (no matter what I choose) take forever to open. Once everything is up and going it's fine...fast, etc..no problems.

When I look at MS Config I see nothing in my startup folder but a lot of programs in my Services folder. Should there be something in startup and if so, what?

I have run SFC Scannow, Malwarebytes, Spybot, and scanned with Norton 360. What else could I look for to fix this startup problem. I have a Windows 7 set of discs that I just got from HP, but there is no repair option....just a complete reinstall and I really don't want to do that.

Since you have already run all those programs I would go a step further and do a defrag of the hard disk using the steps in the below link.

Disk Defragmenter - Open and Use

Doing this will put the fragments of files that get scattered all over the hard drive over time back in their "proper" places which should help speed up windows a bit since it doesnt have to go "searching" for the proper file(s) it needs for very long when things are in their right spots. Hope this helps. :)

Thanks, have done that as well and just did it again. I am at a loss as to what is causing this and will keep looking. Perhaps it's something I just have to live with...

Have you ran a sfc/scannow? Heres a link to how to do that.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Also, you can read this tutorial and see if you want to do this:

Good point about the Optimize Windows ICit2lol, I had just assumed from the first post that this was already done. Reading back over it I'm not so sure.

Did the chkdsk and ran Malware .... no difference. I also remembered that I will sometimes get the message that a long running script is causing a site to open.

Have you considered the repair install? It will save your files and settings as opposed to a clean install.

I have no clue why my startup is so slow. I just happened to think about the long running script thing and thought I would mention it. Probably has nothing at all to do with my problem. I will keep plugging along and see what I can find. Worse case scenario is that I will live with the problem and know it will take a while to boot up.
