Housekeeping: You can delete the OLcomOE folder under C:\Users\YOURLOGIN\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail

It was only used to import the eMail account.

    Let's try a different tact.

Right click on the OLcom account created by the oeaccount file
    select Remove account

    That didn't get you anywhere.

After you've remove the OLcom account, exit WEMail

Try the Windows Live repair app. This can take some time, some plan accordingly
In the Start menu search box, type
    wlarp

the exe file should be present at the top of the results list - click that

    Send / Rcv

If the Repair doesn't fix your issue, some other things you might consider trying:

    • Create a Hotmail account in WLM using IMAP protocol.
    • Try a different email client program such as Thunderbird.
    • Try a newer version of WLM (2012 or 2011).

Do you need to use WLM 2009 with POP3 for some specific reason?
Do you have a lot of email, contacts, appointments saved in local WLM folders?

wlarp....the exe file should be present at the top of the results list - click that
No such file on my system.

Create a Hotmail account in WLM using IMAP protocol.

I'm not sure creating another Hotmail accout will get the hundreds of contacts and calendar events sync'd with my WLM.

Try a different email client program such as Thunderbird.

I've tried MS Outlook, same issue.

Try a newer version of WLM (2012 or 2011).

The later versions do not handle pictures very well.

Alternative to wlarp: Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Windows Live repair

    Hello Tipiford,

In post #24 you said you have the same issue with MS Outlook.
In post #9 you said you had to change the PW "Through Microsoft's bungling".

Maybe there is a problem with your Hotmail account.
I don't know if you can get help from MS to try and fix a "corrupted" Hotmail account.

You could sign up for a new Outlook.com email account.
(Hotmail.com accounts are no longer available for new accounts.)

Then add the new Outlook.com address to WLM (and MS Outlook ?).
Test the new account and see if you have any problems.
You don't have to really use this new account for anything other than testing.
If the new account works, it shows your WLM can work with an MS email account...
If it doesn't work, delete the account.
If it does work, look into using the new account...

That's what I would try next if I had this issue and tried everything you already tried ...

The overlying issue is all of the events in the Hotmail calendar and the contacts that I need which were wiped-out on a new OS install, so getting a new account really isn't an option.

I understand your concern about losing history...
But if you already lost your data because of a "new OS install", I think you have more problems.
Or, at least a different problem than what you described in the OP...

My suggestion to getting a new account was simply to see if WLM can work with a MS email account.
imho, recovering "wiped-out" data after an OS reinstall is different than what I understood in your OP...

Do you have any type of backups?
System Images, data backups, ... ???
Do you have a Windows.old folder after your re-install?
