Can't open links in Windows Live e-mail

I am at my wits end, I cannot open links in Windows Live, yesterday I could. I uninstalled new anti-virus and am not very good at file associations as I am NOT a techie type ( 68 years old ) but it is critical I get this fixed. Please can someone help in layman's terms?

click on SET YOUR DEFAULT PROGRAMS...

Chose WINDOWS LIVE MAIL as your default program.

Tried that but it didn't correct the problem. Messages reads "this program does not have an associated file". Therein lies the problem I can't seem to fix.

You said you were able to open links yesterday; have you installed or uninstalled anything since then? If you have a system restore point, perhaps that will help you, rather than spending time troubleshooting.

Nothing is particularly easy, but it should be doable.

Click on the Start button lower left> In the search box at the bottom of the start menu type Default Programs> Press enter key on your keyboard> Click on Set your default programs at the top> Select your web browser from the list (Internet Explorer likely)> Click on Set this program as default> Click on OK

    Now do this

Click on the Start button lower left> In the search box at the bottom of the start menu type Default Programs> Press enter key on your keyboard> Click on Set program access and computer defaults at the bottom (Click Continue if you get a User Account Control prompt)> Select the Custom option> Click on the double arrow to the right of Custom> Choose a default web browser, select your default browser (likely Internet Explorer)> Make sure a check is in the box next to Enable access to this program

Can't open links in Windows Live e-mail-browser.jpg

Scroll down a bit to Choose a default e-mail program> Choose Use my current e-mail program> Again, make sure a check is in the box next to Enable access to this program

Can't open links in Windows Live e-mail-email.jpg

Scroll to the bottom and click OK

See if links are now working in mail again.
