You're welcome. I'm just sorry you have to do it AGAIN, having just reinstalled with the web install.
3rd time is the charm they say.
Sometimes, the offline full install works.... sometimes not.
You might need a bigger hammer - I have one you can borrow.
Take the "proper" way first - seeing if the full offline install gets you there.
Well thanks for the route to follow - unfortunately after:
Uninstalling Windows Live Essentials twice - ticking the three elements listed, then again ticking the other three, until the Control Panel ceased to display Win Essentials in the list of installed programs.
Then shutting the WiFi, shutting MBAM, shutting Avast, and running the downloaded wlsetup-all.exe (install all, recommended). This attached message was displayed.
Then re-booting, confirming that WLE was listed again in installed programs, restarting WiFi & Avast. Trying to run wlmail.exe failed probably because it is a 2010 file from the earlier version which did not get uninstalled. I deleted that file by hand. Run through the above again and the same 'Could not install' message is displayed.
I have not done a manual trawl through the Registry to see if references to wlmail remain, but I would hesitate to touch them anyway.
Further hints welcomed.
Ok I wondered where you went.
Stay out of the registry.
You gave me new information from that install attempt and actions already taken.
Let me review the posts one more time
I assume you meant 2011 not 2010 [it is a 2010 file from the earlier version]
I'm confused by your reference to three elements and the other three elements but suspect you only mean that you uninstalled 3 components at a time. There is an uninstall all in v2012 - was it not availalbe in v2011? It is possbile that MS added that option in v2012.
These step weren't necessary, but caused no harm either.
I thought you already had the offline install program.
edit: Sorry I misread what you wrote. You said and running the downloaded wlsetup-all.exe
- I read you downloaded and ran the ...... my mistake. What file did you did by hand?
I searched for "that file" on my system and couldn't find it. (sarcasm alert!)
Good stay out of the registry.
It might be a previous stuck install - let's take this one step at a time.
I'll let you know the steps, don't do any more than what I request. OK?
I should note that evenutally your WE will work, but my steps only require one or two attempts to install. Doing more than requested.... well that might require 10 or 20 attempts.
Fair enough?

The error msg comes from the Microsoft installer that driving the WE install, not directly from WE.
It might be looking for the file you deleted, I'm not certain please let me know the name of the file you deleted.
Did you hit the try again button?
If you already trid that, then you might try a Restore Point.
The easiest thing to do might be to use a Restore Point (System Protection)
System Restore
Pick a restore point just before your last attempt. Then things should be better.
Hi muymalestado
It could be your trying to install the wrong version for your location. Try this link.
The difference in our time zones will make this a slow process, I think rodeRunner is closer and has enough knowledge to guide you, so after I reply to your post, I'll back out to the sidelines.
If this doesn't work, RodeRunner will assist you further.
RodeRunner suggested: It could be your trying to install the wrong version for your location. Try this link.
This might be really easy.
Try installing WE using wlsetup-all.exe one more time
If you get the same message, hit the Try Again button.
and we shall see on your next post if you have a working WE
