Certificate Errors

I didn't get any problems like that. I've used it today and a few times in the past. it's supposed to warn you if your browser has been compromised by malware or"man in the middle" attacks. As for removing it - this is the method that I used.

Stop the Hitman Pro Alert Service (Start> Run> type services.msc then press enter) or use any decent service manager that you've installed. Once the service is stopped check processes for hmpalert.exe and kill it if present.

Then try uninstalling. Personally I used IObit Uninstaller rather than add/ remove programs but that's not a recommendation - just the way that I removed it.

Just the service, executable, the uninstaller and a couple of dll's.


As it didn't run smoothly it would seem to suggest that there's a problem with IE.

Anyway after that disaster perhaps it might be an idea to uninstall IE 11 (assuming that you've upgraded to the latest version). If you want to be sure of keeping your bookmarks you should export them first.

It should roll back to IE 10 and if you temporarily disable windows updates you can test IE 10 for a while to see if you get the same problem.

You can reinstall IE 11 by re-enabling windows updates.

Apparently it's more than IE, with Hitman installed, many things would not open, System Properties, Task Mgr, and several programs.

I finally managed to trash the trash by a system Restore initiated at boot.

Glad you sorted it. Never thought of that. Then again I gave up on using system restore some time ago and I keep it disabled. That company Surfright is a well respected one! Sorry that it caused problems!

It's not your fault buddy. I have use Hitman Pro before, but not the Alert2 thing.

I'm starting to think it's all Yahoo's ads in the email %#$##^! The error hasn't shown up anywhere else for several days now. As soon as an ad loads the cert error pops up.

Try running IE10 with InPrivate browsing mode Ctrl+Shift+P. See if the certificate errors appear there. Sometimes a content data network (CDN) can add content to a webpage, and InPrivate should block that. But it is only for that session, and just to see if that stops the errors. IE10 no longer has InPrivate Filtering, but has Tracking Protection

You can disable the certificate errors, but that is rather heavy handed, and does not explain why you are suddenly getting them.

I had seen CDN but I thought is was Canadian something or other.

You've probably tried this already. Just check that your security settings in the following zones in IE are set as shown. (Just edit settings for whatever you've set for the Current Level).

Make a note of your current settings if they're not identical!

Yup, security level set as shown, no change.

I did get a name for the offender with Opera though.



EDIT: I added this CDN entry to my Hosts and the problem is solved, thanks to all for your help.:)
