Almost there- need help
I've successfully prevented a free media player called The KMPlayer from loading a live side section (whenever I open a video) which has movie or other annoying media ad offers... by adding a line in System32 > Drivers > etc >hosts file.
127.0.0.1 player.kmpmedia.net
Also, to block a patch update popup that also happens when opening a video: Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Inbound and Outbound block all executables in the player program location.
However, Internet Explorer still opens the page in the attached image whenever I open a video. I think it's the update patch pop-up mentioned above but without the content. It's a "can't display" message.
I tried adding the address line text half-seen in the image attachment to Internet Options > Security Restricted Sites. The line from the address field seen in the image attachment is:
res://ieframe.dll/dnserrordiagoff_webOC.htm -#h**p://player.kmpmedia.net/kmp_plus/platform/view/main (note: http changed with asterisks to prevent a hotlink)
When clicking Add, it shows up as "about page blank" in the Security > Restricted Sites field.
And, it did not work to prevent the "cannot display page" popup from appearing whenever I open a video. I also tried just the "http://player.kmpmedia.net/kmp_plus/platform/view/main" part of the text above from the address field. Didn't work.
How do I prevent that thing from appearing?
