Currently have IE 8. Trying to downlod IE 11. Got the message "Operating system is not supported".
I have Windows 7 Home, 64bit Edition, Service Pack 1. According to what I have read I should be able to download 11.
Any suggestions? I appreciate any help I can get, but don't understand a lot of technical stuff, keep that in mind.

I learned everything I know from "Smart Computing" questions and answers (which has been discontinued due to the magazine not doing well). It was recommended not to have automatic updates because so many do not apply to your system so I chose what to install. Perhaps I did not install what I need. I have no idea whether I installed what I need for IE 11.
Where do I go from here, is there any hope for me? I do not have any problems with IE 8, but I get messages that I need to upgrade for more security and faster. I read that some people have trouble with IE 11 and want to uninstall.
Do you have any recommendations for a 71 year old user?

No worries. It would be best to install all Windows Updates marked "important" and "critical" though. Any marked as "optional" (ex: Bing Desktop) are ones that you could install only if you wanted to.
When installing updates, it's recommended to only install the ones that are checked by default first, restart the computer if prompted when finished, then repeat until there are no more updates checked by default to install. Any updates left to install that are not checked would be up to you to install or not, but you should for any "important" or "critical" ones.
Using step 2 in OPTION ONE in the tutorial below can help show you more on how to check for and install Windows Updates to help more. It's for Windows 8, but is the same in Windows 7.

I just clicked on "Post Reply", but it did not come up. Just the "Post Quick Reply" so I am replying here. I did a lot of Window updates and now have IE 11. All my tool bars are gone, can't get to e-mail or my favorites! Now what do I do? I like to use Google, but now Bing is shown, not Google. Help.

Going from IE8 to IE11 most likely just reset IE.

Check to see if your add-ons may just be disabled, and are able to just enable them again. You can install any IE add-on you want back from here: Internet Explorer Gallery
Brink, I have been trying to do the "Menu Bar - Turn On or Off". I want to always have it on, but when I go through the steps I get a warning it could harm my computer, I guess it changes the registry and I have been warned you should be an expert to do anything with the registry. What do you recommend I do now? Thank goodness "There are no dumb questions" because I have a lot of them. I am going to be up all night just to send a e-mail.
Use Option two for IE instead for the menu bar. You'll need to scroll down a little bit in the tutorial to see Option Two. :)

Brink, I did it by using the "View" and "Tool Bars". My favorites and the-mail icon are back! Now I will find out if IE 11 is better than IE 8. Thank you for all your help.
