How to save emails with recipient and date sent details.

I work in a job where I have to constantly save emails to various files on the system. Every time I save a file I have to manually type in who the email was from/to and the date & time into the name of the email files. As you can imagine this is pretty tedious.

So my question is, is there a way of saving the email to a file where it automatically populates recipient details and time & date.

If you can help me do this then you will save hrs of my day and make me a happy man.

joezepher, welcome to the windows 7 forum.

One way that could work is to define a print to file printer and then select that printer as the default printer in your email program. Most times when I print a message it prints the whole thing including all the heading.

    Just a thought.

What eMail client are you using?

If it's Windows Essential mail (possibly other clients), you can just drag and drop copy the msg from the inbox view to a new folder.
This will be in the .eml format, not text, so you can open it with the eMail client (it is editable, but it's the eMail protocol). Try it and take a look both ways (dbl click to open and text editor).

If you need text only, try this:
Reply to the mail, select all in the reply, copy and then paste into a text editor. The reply should contain the original sender, recipient(s), date, and subject (header fields) as text.

That's the best I can offer without knowing what you want to use the file for afterwards.
