    IQ Browser

Anyone know how to change the useragent string in the now (& then ?) obscure IQ Browser ? I don't think this browser is supposed to work with anything beyond XP or Vista, but in my quest for the 1 browser for all sites (I know, I know) I used the last version of IQ, 1.1.1 for about a week. It did what it claims, which is that it's brutally fast, but on Windows 7 some of the options don't work, which I guess I could live with, but not being able to change the useragent isn't workable long term. On my system it produced a hybridization of it's own useragent, based on IE 7 & with a lot of .net in it, with Trident 7.0 bundled in there, hence IE 11. I uninstalled the browser and didn't keep a copy of the useragent, but that part's been nagging me, how to change the useragent in IQ Browser. Thoughts ?

    Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Do you have a download link to the version that you want to change the user agent string on?

BTW, MS is encouraging websites not to depend on the user agent string.

    Thank You

I watched an interview a few weeks ago with some advanced IE team and I couldn't believe it when I heard them saying that, that they encourage websites not to depend on the user agent. To me, this points at the IE 11 string, which in my estimation is incomplete, and begs the question, why is Microsoft telling sites IE 11 is a Mozilla browser ? Microsoft can encourage anything they want but the hard reality is that my bank, which is a prime example, needs me to use the "eventually going away" and now quasi hidden compatability mode to achieve full functionality on it's desktop site. I will admit that IE 11, especially after the last few updates, is as fast as it was out of the box and more stable. My gripes are things like freezing and the back button not working, rendering time on some pages I go to frequently and the ever important inability to have my tabs back on the bottom where they belong ..... sigh

I must not be clicking in the correct spot(s). I'm not getting the download to start. Does it work for you? Can you post a link to the exe?

Here is a blog entry - if you have not seen the spiel:

The link is the same as the "second" website that I went to from your first link.

Here is what I saw from the first website:
    IQ Browser-iq1.png

    And the second page:
    IQ Browser-iq2.png
As I waited to see if a download would start, I moused over links to see what was being offered. This link is from a different domain name. It downloads a file that is 444KB. See the Virus total scan here.

I'm doing this inside of an isolated/frozen virtual machine - so no worries about infections. Is that the file that you got when you said that it works for you?

I ran the downloader and declined the junk it offered. It downloaded another EXE. That EXE installed the browser.

Some of the files and folder structure looks like Chrome.

I did not see a way to change the user agent string.

I'll try again later - when I have more time.

I reinstalled version 1.1.1 so I could at least post the user agent string. From useragentstring.com:

    Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/7.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; .NET4.0C; .NET4.0E; IQ 1.1.1.2556; english)

The fact that when I previously had this browser installed I went through every file in every folder I could find that pertained to this browser, I'm considering uninstalling IE 11 to see if that will change anything with the user agent. I'm highly skeptical, but I may try it.

NOTE: After I closed the browser the first time on this install, I got a program compatability window asking if the program installed correctly. I remember answering yes on my initial install but this time around I selected the second option, to have Windows reinstall the program with compatability for this version of Windows. I'll use and look in to this browser more this afternoon and see if I notice any difference from the first go.
