    I get crazy!

Why is IE (regardless of version) changing the . to _ when I download a file (e.g. xxx.exe to xxx_exe or xxx.pdf to xxx_pdf)? The only thing I can do is to restart the Pc. On my laptop I use Windows 7 32 bit and on my desktop I use Windows 7 64 bit. Same error. On my work, I have asked our IT developers and they know about the error and their solution is to restart the Pc or explorer.exe.

There must be a solution if I want to keep IE?

    Peter.

Review Jacee’s instructions to run Adwcleaner here post #7,
Ignore the title of the thread,
    Instant Savings App
You can use these free tools to see if they find anything,
Manually Update them before running full scans,
Try not to use your computer while the scans are running, (one at a time of course).
Uncheck the box to Activate the Free trial from the final install options,

This one is the longest up to 4 hours, the others are only about 45 minutes,

I am pretty sure that this is not a spyware problem because I have experienced it on a newly installed PC. If I use Adwcleaner the PC restarts after the scan and the problem is gone temporarily. If I just restart the PC the problem will also temporarily go away, but I will follow your advices. No problems today yet. I think that it is a MS error.

I have seen this occur if there is corruption in the temporary internet files.

If you delete them and start fresh, this problem should go away.

    Do this from Internet options.

+1 for AdwCleaner. See if that doesn't fix it. I have also seen a setting cause this BTW

See if this setting is checked in IE

Do not save encrypted pages to disk

If it is, uncheck it and try again.

Open IE> Tools (Gear upper right)> Internet options> Advanced> Scroll down to Security section> Uncheck Do not save encrypted pages to disk

Close IE and reopen it and try to download an .exe file.
