    Hello Gordie,

If you like, you might see if completely resetting IE back to default may be able to help. :)

    Hi,
You might try to review what type of add-ons Avast has installed in ie11,
Of course if ie11 won't open access them via Start and Control panel,
    Internet options/ Programs/ manage add-ons,
On the left column about the middle Show switch to Show all add-ons and take a screen shot,
Disable one at a time and test,
    Cheers.

    Hi,
Try to switch to Software rendering instead of gpu rendering,
    https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/149063-internet-explorer-gpu-hardware-acceleration-turn-off.html
You can also take some screen shots of your show all add-ons page and we might see something bad,
Chrome will usually install some BHO add-ons that should be Disabled,
Other program do also so if you see anything that says BHO disable them,
See the link above my signature on how to take and upload screen shots if you need too,
    Cheers.
