Problem with Update of IE9 to IE10

My Windows Update has two updates, IE10 & IE11. I tick the box for the update IE10 & run it. It updates successfully but my internet browser is still IE9 & the two updates are still showing under Windows Update. I have tried the uninstall/hide IE9 options, that messed with IE9 but luckily I managed to fix it. I also tried to install IE10 manually with the same result. How do I fix this? Having the two updates permanently show in Windows Update is irritating & I would like to have Internet Explorer up to date.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. None of your suggestions have helped unfortunately. Mr Fixit gives me an error, something about error trying to connect to the server (Code 8004FE2C). After trying the update to IE 10, it still says update has been successful but IE is still version 9, that's now both IE & IE - 64 bit.

    Hi
Mr Fixit gives the same error in Safe Mode with Networking. I ran sfc /scannow & it said there were no integrity violations. Mmmmmmm????

Open reliability monitor and see what is in there,

Ok. Not sure what to look for. I see the updates for IE 10 are there & it says they were successful. I also see under my update history that I installed the IE 10 update successfully 23 times. I saved a copy of the Reliability Monitor report for you. Not sure if it will help you. Awaiting your further instruction.

Hi I didn't get to much out of the report possibly someone else might ?
    Reset reliability monitor,
    https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/20779-reliability-monitor-reset.html
    Change your windows update settings,
    https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2797-windows-update-settings-change.html
    Use these settings for now,

Manually check for updates and post screen shots of both sections/ Important and Optional,
Also go to Restore hidden updates and if any are listed take a screen shot of them.
