Maybe note worthy: Last night I did a windows update and right after the restart IE had the same problem. I deleted one of the updates and it was back working again. Reading that the key scrambler might have been the culprit before, I removed that program as well. I am now thinking that despite the scrambler worked well before, it may have been a previous window update that started the problem. Note, the first time I installed the key scrambler was at least a year ago and I have un-installed and re-installed several times to see if it was the cause of previous problems.
I'll now wait and see how my PC behaves before I mark this topic as solved. Thanks again.

    Hi,
You should adjust your windows updates setting so only Important updates are either loaded or just so they are separated a bit better,
    https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2797-windows-update-settings-change.html
Uncheck the box to Give you recommended updates the same as Important ones,
I would guess the update was kb2925418 or kb2929437 which I'm also hoping this is not the update you rolled back on or uninstalled ?
I personally only load Important updates,
I always review Recommended and Optional updates to see what exactly they are,
Most do not apply to my needs or usage,
I currently have 20 Optional and recommended updates being offered,

Yes, I have it set to manually install updates. This morning (after my last post and deleting the key scrambler) I downloaded three important updates. kb 2929437, kb 2936068 and kb 2952664. Now IE stops working when I go to view a youtube video and firefox stops working as soon I click on the icon.

Well just restore to before the updates Vonda and Hide those updates you can make a note of them and try them later if you want.

This one is from a hotfix which if you used any hotfixes you can mostly uninstall them,
I personally don't show that update = confirmed no existence of this update or hotfix which you would have to manually go and download this update it would not show up in the update system as far as I know,
MS14-018: Description of the security update for Internet Explorer: April 8, 2014

kb 2952664 according to my list this is a Optional/ recommended update not a Important update,
    Safe to Uninstall it.

These were the up dates in question:
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2929437)
    Download size: 45.0 MB
    Update type: Important
Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2909210)
    Download size: 450 KB
    Update type: Important
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2952664)
    Download size: 2.4 MB
    Update type: Recommended
I restored back to when they were installed and at this time both IE and Firefox works now. I only have the extra browser in case I have problems with IE. If there is a way to load an other browser from a USB I could delete the firefox (less problems?) would not be better to revert to IE 10?
